BIOETHANOL - What is it?
Bioethanol is absolute alcohol also called Methylated Spirits in Australia.
Bioethanol - or simply 'ethanol' is a renewable energy source made by fermenting the sugar and starch components of plant by-products - mainly sugarcane and crops like grain, using yeast. It is also made from corn, potatoes, milk, rice, beetroot and recently grapes, banana and dates depending on the countries agricultural strength.
Today, bioethanol has many uses: It is blended with petrol to make a truly sustainable transport fuel, it's used in cosmetic and other manufacturing processes, and it creates the clean burning, beautiful dancing flame in our fireplaces.
In accordance with various global regulations bio ethanol (100% alcohol) cannot be sold in its purest form to avoid human consumption.
Ethanol is de-natured with various substances for re-sale purposes and it is then called Denatured Ethanol, Methylated Spirits, Denatured Alcohol, and many other names depending on where you live. Many people ask us where they can buy the fuel from. The good thing about Denatured Ethanol (Methylated Spirits) is that you can buy it from many sources. Supermarkets, petrol stations, hardware stores and cleaning products suppliers.

It is important to remember that you will be buying in bulk. The average household will use between 60 - 140 litres for heating during winter in Sydney, Australia. It is most economical to be buying the twenty litre bottles for household use and to be buying either 40 or 60 Litres at a time.

EMISSIONS FROM BIOETHANOL
Bioethanol is completely composed of biological products. The combustion of bio ethanol results in a clean emission: Heat, Steam and Carbon Dioxide.
Carbon dioxide is absorbed by plants. It is then processed via photosynthesis to help the plant grow and the plant then releases oxygen. This infinite cycle of creation and combustion of energy makes bio ethanol a carbon neutral fuel source. This cycle is therefore and sustaianable process.
HOW TO USE AN ECOSMART FIREPLACE
Burning bio ethanol creates a beautiful lively dancing orange flame that is simply mesmerising. And because they don't need a flue or chimney you can now enjoy an open fire more easily than ever before - even in a high rise building!
Ecosmart fireplaces are simple to use. Filling them with fuel, lighting the fire, regulating the flame and finally extinguishing the flame is simple and safe.

EFFICIENT GREEN ENERGY
Since the combustion of bio ethanol is clean you you don't need a chimney or flue. As a result you get to keep the heat - so most of the heat generated by the combustion of bioethanol gets to stay in the room - that's what makes burning bioethanol so efficient and effective.
Compared to other flued systems, they lose most of what they produce (heat) up the flue rather than putting it to work in your house.
STORAGE AND HANDLING
Bio ethanol is classified as a Flammable Liquid Class 1B (for Flammability) and Class 3 PGII (for Transportation) and is regulated by various standards around the world.
You must familiarise yourself and comply with these regulations in order to safely and legally store, handle, decant and use this fuel.
Also check with your insurer and/or owner's corporation to see what limits you have on how much fuel you can store.

CERTIFICATIONS
ISO Certified
The EcoSmart™ Fire is manufactured by an ISO Accredited manufacturer who conforms with ISO 9001:2008.
C-UL US Listed
The EcoSmart™ Fire is the first product of its kind to have its collection so comprehensively C-UL US Listed. Specific requirements for models sold with the C-UL US Listed symbol include:
C-UL US Listed models include Burner TwoUL. This is the same as Burner Two (two litre burner) but has the C-UL US marking on it.
C-UL US marked burner will only be sold with completed models as the burner itself is not approved as an independent item - this means it can not be sold as a Burner Kit.
C-UL US Listed models must have the Wind Screen Static fitted at all times.
C-UL US Listed models must be installed into a fixed secure position using the instructions and fixing supplied with each model.
The Grates can only be installed into an existing masonry fireplace setting. For the most up to date list of C-UL US Listed models and compliance requirements please contact us.
SITAC Approved
The EcoSmart™ Fire Collection has achieved Swedish Institute for Technical Approval in Construction (SITAC) approval.
Tested under AGA Guidance
Instructions and specifications for the EcoSmart Fireplace were tested as far as practicable to a selection of clauses from AS4553/AG103
TÜV Certified
EcoSmart™ Fire is TÜV certified in Germany when using Burner Two within a Firebox setting. For further information, please contact your distributor.
Norm Francais
The EB2 electronic burner complies with the AFNOR Ethanol Fireplace Standard NF D35-386.
WARRANTY
EcoSmart Fires come with a limited 2 year warranty.
